The vertical base has a chip deflector with a vac port, one thumb screw attaches the assembly. Vac port fits both the D36 and D27 hoses.
A view from the top of the vertical base, you can see one of the two attachment points for the edge guide (arrow far left), the vac port built into the base, fits the D27 hose (arrow upper center) and one of the four bit centerlines (arrow lower right).
The MFK's bases have a large knob adjusting the bit height. Each marking is 0.1 mm (about 1/256") giving the MFK a very precise, accurate depth adjustment. The know also has arrows with a + and - so you'll which way to turn the know to increase or decrease the depth of cut.
Both of the MFK's bases have a range of adjustment of 15 mm (around 9/16"). The vertical base adjusts by loosening one thumb screw and the large knob/handle (green arrows) then turning the depth adjustment knob. Check out the spot the black arrow is pointing to, there is no space between the section of the base (base set to its maximum depth).
With the depth set to the minimum you can see the space between the sections. Tighten the thumb screw and knob/handle to lock in the depth setting.
